NAPAKAW@LANGYA NG TATAY NA ITO SA ANAK | Tagalog Crime Story Transcripts:
It was late, Rodel and his friends were already late in the evening in the Tondo area. They became friends with someone they worked with there. So they had drinks at the house of the man who was also over 50 years old . The man suddenly asked them if they wanted to pull. Rodel and his friends say that such a habit shouldn’t cost money.
Rodel had money at the time, but the man who was offering the favors had no money. But Rodel was surprised when the man told him that if he wanted to have sex, he had it. The father himself taught his daughter [music] . This is where Rodel discovers the extremely cruel system of his male friend and this is where a case begins to be revealed that the father is committing against his own son just to make money.
So these are the first things that happened before Rodel reached that scene. In 2015, Rodel Bñas [musician] came from the province of Maria Aurora with some of his colleagues from the province. They specifically went to Tondo, Manila because they were working on a house project. In short, Rodel was a construction worker and it was here that he met Luciano, who became his workmate.
Due to the crowded area of Tondo, Manila, father and son Luciano Briones and their one-year-old daughter Katrina Briones live. Their area is known for its narrow alleys, close-knit houses, and people who almost know each other within the community. In the morning, you can hear the shouts of vendors, the noise of tricycles, and the laughter of children playing in the street.
But at night, the appearance of the place changes. Silence gradually enveloped every alley as others gathered [music] on the corners to drink and gamble. The father and son are not actually from Manila. Luciano and Katrina are natives of Visayas. Katrina was only 10 years old when her father decided to leave their province. Some of their relatives have lived in Tondo for a long time.
[music] So Luciano believed he would have more opportunities in Manila. At first, their lives were good. They stayed at a relative’s house while looking for a place to rent. After a few months they also found a small house inside a crowded alley. The roof is made of iron. The walls are made of patchwork wood and the floor is thin cement.
When it rains hard, the ceiling leaks [music] . But they endured it because they had nowhere else to go. As Katrina grew up, her neighbors gradually recognized her as a kind and hardworking young woman. Besides, she is beautiful. According to other relatives, she looks exactly like her mother. But his mother is no longer there because she also ran away from them when he was young.
He also said that his father’s story was about money. But some people have the opposite view of his father. Luciano Briones is known in the area as a man who loves easy money. He doesn’t stay at work long. Once you get in as a loader or construction worker, you’ll be out in just a few weeks. He would rather hang out on the corner than look for a job.
He is also often seen at drinking parties where he always boasts that one day he will also become rich without having to work hard. Many people don’t know how he survives every day. There were times when he was unemployed for a few days but suddenly had money to spend. When neighbors ask him questions, [music] he just smiles and says he knows people who can help him.
Most people didn’t pay attention to that anymore . They thought Luciano only had followers outside Tondo. Meanwhile, [music] as Katrina got older she became more responsible. She [the musician] takes care of the house, cooks, does the laundry, and sometimes helps out at their relative’s small store so they can buy food. Even though their life was difficult, he never complained, but he noticed a gradual change in his father’s behavior.
He has guests at home more often now. Not relatives. Not even neighbors. All the men she didn’t know were coming. They are usually in their forties and above . When someone comes, Luano sends him out first to buy cigarettes, soft drinks, or other orders that seem to be intended to get him out of the house.
At first he didn’t give it any meaning. He thought maybe his father just had a business. But as the weeks passed, he noticed that strangers were coming more frequently . One of the people he often sees is Edgar Villa Corta. This is a quiet man who is always well dressed. Next came Nicanor Bautista, then Samuel Arboleda, Federico Alonso and Oscar Miharez.
They don’t visit at the same time. They were on different days and times, but Katrina noticed the same thing. They all head straight for his father. [music] Sometimes they even hand over a thick envelope or folded money before quietly leaving. So one night Katrina asked, [music] “Dad, who are the men who always come here?” Lyano was silent for a moment . Then he smiled.
Those are just people I know. We make money because of them. Katrina didn’t say anything and forced a smile [music] because even though she didn’t know what her father was doing, the important thing was that they weren’t stuck with the household budget. [sighs] Katrina didn’t even finish high school [music] so she also knows how difficult their lives are.
But his father is still good at keeping secrets. Every time he returned home, Luciano would give him money, supposedly as part of the [music] earnings he earned. But what Katrina doesn’t know is that it comes from drug trafficking and that even her father is an addict . It wasn’t long before Katrina noticed that her father didn’t seem to have a real job.
It’s not about making money. Instead, he spent most of the day just hanging out at home [music] or on the corner with [music] some acquaintances. Yet they don’t lose money buying food. Broken household items were even replaced and Luciano was able to buy [music] things they didn’t need. Some relatives began to wonder how Luciano had money when he had been without a decent job for a long time.
When asked a question, he only has one answer. There are people who know how to show gratitude to me, son. But the source of the money was all easy money from drugs and gambling, which Katrina didn’t know about . Until Luciano is offered to introduce his daughter to a rich man in exchange for a large sum of money.
Luciano didn’t like that [music] at first. The thing is, when he heard Easy Money, he thought about it for a few nights while seeing his son. A few days later, Luciano said he would introduce someone to Katrina. Katrina is about that age. This time, greed overcame Lano’s mind. The first time he received money, he noticed that he had earned more in just one day than he had in several weeks of working in construction.
That’s when his thinking began to change . [music] According to Katrina’s story, her father took her to a wealthy man [music] who was also about 18 years old. His father said he was only in that house all day because he was just cleaning the room. He said his father would pick him up in the afternoon. The man had already handed Luciano some money, which Katrina saw.
And when Katrina’s father finally got his wish, according to him, what he did was not cleaning the house . Suddenly, the man grabbed her tightly and forcibly raped her. The man kept saying to her as he tried to undress her inside the house, “Don’t fight back, you’re done for.
” Do you want your father to be angry with you ? As a woman, Katrina was already depressed and weak as she was being abandoned by the first man her own father sold her to. She said the man touched and used her twice throughout that day and she did nothing but surrender as if she had just accepted her fate. Katrina was crying when her father picked her up.
But his father remained calm and said, ” That’s okay, son. I’ll give you what you earned. I’ll just deduct a little .” Katrina didn’t speak anymore, as if she had just understood her father. And instead of feeling guilty , Luciano thought he could do it again. So from that day on, according to Katrina, they gradually turned her father’s use of her body into a source of income.
The only thing that mattered to Luciano back then was bringing home money. Every time someone [music] calls him, he immediately arranges everything. There are days when he says Katrina has a new source of income. There are times when he lies about having a temporary job in another barangay.
And Katrina also admitted that at that time she was very disgusted with what she was doing. But sometimes he says he feels like he’s just settling down and fixing everything in his mind because he and his father are living a good life. Even though it was against her will to be treated like a tool by men for money. As time went on, Katrina became increasingly numb to what was happening to her with different men.
But Luciano is more numb [to music], he doesn’t look at it anymore. As Katrina’s daughter, in her mind, this is just a way for her to continue having easy money. Because of this, he has also neglected his responsibility as a Father. As his income grew, he also became more spendthrift. He was out drinking almost every night. When his friends win at gambling , he joins in boasting as if he were a successful businessman.
But no one knew where the money he was paying really came from . Meanwhile, Katrina is slowly losing love for her body. Raya Santiago, her best friend, noticed that. Katrina used to be cheerful and lively. Now it is often quiet. He always looks tired and seems to be harboring serious problems. He asked her several times if something was happening at their house.
But in [music] every time Katrina only has one answer. I’m fine. He couldn’t tell the truth because he was afraid of his own father. He still believes that one day [music] will stop doing what they do. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the number of men coming to their house increased. There were times when Edgar Viacorta met with Luciano.
On other days, it’s Sincanor Bautista, Samuel Arboleda, Federico Alonso or Oscar Mihares. Every conversation always has a replacement envelope or folded money. But it’s not just about their drug racket but also the payment to have Katrina in bed with them. But a few months later, one morning while preparing breakfast, Katrina suddenly felt extremely dizzy.
He sat on the edge of the bed and almost lost consciousness. He thought he was just tired. But when she got tested at the clinic with her friend Reya, the results were positive. Katrina is pregnant. It felt like his world was collapsing. He couldn’t speak right away. His hands were shaking as he just stared at the paper he was holding.
He didn’t know how to tell his father that. But [music] is more than that, he doesn’t know what will happen to him in the next few days. When Luciano learned the news, his son’s condition wasn’t his first thought. Instead, his first thought [music] was how Katrina’s pregnancy would affect his income from the work he was doing for his daughter.
The sad thing about this is that Katrina no longer knows who the father of the child is and if she does know, is there a man who will believe her and hold her accountable? It’s definitely unlikely to happen. But her father supported her during her pregnancy because he also didn’t want Katrina to abort the child.
Until Katrina gave birth , everything went well . But after a few months and fully recovering from giving birth, Katrina [music] finally became heartbroken and wanted to send her father to prison because he was charging her for the expenses. [music] Luciano even says that he will quickly improve his body so that many people will like him.
But Katrina was almost unwilling to agree. And here Luciano even worked extra on a house construction project because his [musical] skills were lacking at that time. There he met Rodel B at work. She and Rodel had only been together for two weeks and he invited her to stay at their house with two other co-workers.
It was Saturday so there was a paycheck and the reason Luterano invited them was because he wanted to recommend Katrina to those who wanted to visit them. And as stated at the beginning of the story, Rodel did pay that night and something happened between him and Katrina right in Luciano’s house, which was only separated by a wall. Think about that.
You know someone is using your child inside the room while you are drinking outside. Isn’t your father so heartless? He’s already paid . But Rodel and Katrina’s meeting didn’t end that night because Rodel took Katrina seriously even though she had a child . Rodel is not in Katrina’s situation . So a few months later, Katrina, along with her friend Reya and Rodel, reported the matter to the police.
Their first complaint was about drugs [music]. But when she gave her statement, cases of exploitation or placing the child in a situation of exploitation or qualified human trafficking emerged. So after several weeks of surveillance and gathering statements, investigators believed that the information they had obtained was sufficient to begin operations against the main suspects.
Along with the arrest of Luciano Briones, police also conducted separate operations [music] against Edgar Vacorta, Nicor Bautista, [music] Samuel Arboleda, Federico Alonso and Oscar Mihares. During the raid on their hideouts, several packages of suspected illegal drugs and other paraphernalia related to illegal drug dealing were allegedly confiscated.
When the trial finally moved forward at the Regional Trial Court in Manila, Luciano Briones and several of his associates were no longer facing charges related to illegal drugs, while Edgar Viacorta, Nickanor Bautista, Samuel Arboleda, Federico Alonso and Oscar Mihares remained incarcerated due to separate charges related to illegal drugs.
Luciano [music] faced an even more serious charge of qualified human trafficking for allegedly repeatedly pushing his son to sell his flesh in exchange for money. One of the hottest issues in the trial is the question of the defense. If everything that happened was really against Katrina’s will , why did she only report it now after several years? Luciano’s lawyer even insisted [music] that Katrina was an adult when the events began .
According to him, he also allegedly receives part of the money his father gives him and he did not run away or immediately report it to the authorities. Because of this, [music] the defense said that she voluntarily accepted the situation or her actions of having sex with different men. But the prosecution refuted that one by one.
In her statement, Katrina explained that at first she believed that what her father was asking her to do was a legitimate job. When he realized what was really happening, he was afraid to fight back because the very person he was supposed to lean on was the one who was putting him down. In that situation. He also has nowhere else to live.
He did not have enough education and he only relied on his father to survive. The prosecution also explained [music] that the money Luciano was giving Katrina was not compensation for her daughter’s voluntary decision but a way to keep her under control and dependent on him. Accepting money under such circumstances does not mean that the victim’s decision was free and voluntary.
After several hearings, the court announced its decision. According to the court, it did not find that Katrina was truly free during the times when the events occurred . As a father, Luciano has influence and control over his son. She was also the one who sought out men, received payment and repeatedly arranged meetings in exchange for money.
Because of this, the court found that he used his power as a parent to exploit his own child for personal gain. The judge further explained that Katrina’s being 1 year old at the time was not sufficient to absolve Luciano of liability under Republic Act number 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in [music] Persons Act of 2003 as amended by Republic Act number 10364, which provides that anyone who recruits, transports, transports or receives a person for the purpose of exploitation in exchange for payment [music] may be held legally liable. In this case,
the Regional Trial Court ultimately declared Luciano Briones guilty of a charge of qualified human trafficking under Republic Act number [music] 9208. According to the judge, the prosecution proved that Luciano used his power as a [music] father to repeatedly pimp his own child in exchange for [music] money.
It was also proven that Luciano himself initiated and benefited from the exploitation of his son, whom he himself forced. Because of this, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. In addition to the two million pesos fine, the court also did not give weight to the defense that Katrina allegedly consented because under the law, the consent of the [music] victim does not exonerate the person who exploited [music] and profited from trafficking.
The judge said that a parent has a duty to protect their child [music] not to monetize or sell it. In the latest news, friends [music], Rodel brought Katrina home to them in Maria Aurora and there they lived together in a place where no one knew Katrina very well.
